Metabolic Modulators Research Ltd (MMRL) is a biotechnology
and pharmaceutical company that performs research in areas
concerned with the metabolism of the energy - producing cellular
fuels, fatty acids and carbohydrates.
Formed in 1997, MMRL develops and commercializes technology
related to the control and optimization of the metabolism
of these fuels. As a spin-off company of the University of
Alberta, MMRL laboratories are located on campus in close
proximity to the Faculty of Medicine.
MMRL, through its research activities, has identified a number
of targets within these energy producing pathways that are
susceptible to drug - induced regulation.
MMRL aims to develop this novel class of drugs, known as
metabolic modulators, for the clinical management of a variety
of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, including congestive
heart failure cardiac ischemia and diabetes. |
